Cross couldn’t come forward (as a child) because Hastert was a coach: Respected in the community, respected as a teacher, a friend of the family, of the entire community.

“… on average, it takes the person that was abused [that was a minor] until the age of 42 before they come out… you go through shame, pain, guilt, embarrassment… there are so many emotions that drive… for me, it was in my gut. No one can tell anyone else what they need to do. I felt that it was the right thing for me to do.. to help me and to have a voice for other victims [that], You know what? Its okay to come forward and you should be able to feel comfortable and tell your story.”

A coalition of Glencoe community members and District 35 alumni convened upon the board of education to charge the district to raise their investigation standards in hopes of finding justice and encouraging victims of Martin’s sexual assaults to step forward.

“I have no memories of him at all,” Martin said during an interview with the ABC7 I-Team.

He continued, “I can’t comprehend his hatred. I’ve never felt that kind of hatred and can’t understand anyone who would be so full of hate as he seems to be..”

There is no example of the “hatred” that Martin declares. It isn’t about hatred, Marvin.
Plain and simply: It’s about justice for the countless victims of a career serial pedophile.

ABC7 visits Marvin Martin at his Kenosha, Wisconsin home which, curiously, is less than 1000 feet from Roosevelt Elementary School. For decades, Martin lived 500′ from District 35 South School (K-6) in Glencoe, Illinois.

“I don’t know what happened, what he thought happened. I know what he thought happened, but I don’t know what happened. But I do know myself and I know I wouldn’t have done the things he said I did.”

It’s hard to escape the thought that an innocent man might have said,
“Hell no, I didn’t do that!” or “He’ll be hearing from my lawyer.”
